Air conditioning and absolute air filtration system for asbestos removal from railway carriages
The scoibentation of railway carriages, manufactured until the use of asbestos was discontinued, significantly reduces the risk of exposure to asbestos, protecting the health of workers and travellers. The safety measures taken during scoibentation, such as the confinement of the area with negative pressure systems, the use of appropriate PPE, specially designed equipment to retain all fibres sucked in during the process, ensure that asbestos is not dispersed into the environment. At the Seal utilisation terminal at the Livorno port site, the carriages are introduced into the shed held under negative pressure through specially designed roll-up doors. All suction air during the scoibentation phases converges on absolute filters that, with a filter clogging measurement system, automatically adjusts the air flow balance to constantly guarantee negative pressure until the filter replacement point is reached.
